Verdi’s heart-wrenching tragedy, a mainstay in current repertoire, nearly failed its opening night. Luckily for opera fans worldwide, La Traviata survived its tepid premiere to become one of the most adored operas of all time. In this Metropolitan Opera production, Lisette Oropesa stars as the sickly Violetta Valéry, with Piotr Buszewski in the role of Alfredo Germont and Luca Salsi as Giorgio Germont. Italian conductor Antonelle Manacorda conducts the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.
