Pulitzer prize winning author N. Scott Momaday (1934–2024) was born in Lawton, Oklahoma, to a father of Kiowa Indian heritage and a mother of European and Cherokee heritage. In April 1996, he shared some of his writing and life experiences with Studs Terkel on WFMT. During the program, both men read works from Momaday’s book of poetry, In The Presence of The Sun.
