Finish composer Kaija Saariaho’s final opera tackles a harrowing topic: school shootings and the trauma left in their wake. The opera’s premiere in 2021 left audiences stunned and deeply moved. Conductor Susanna Mälkki, close collaborator of Saariaho’s, works with producer Simon Stone to bring a new adaptation to the Metropolitan Opera Stage, features Jacquelyn Stucker and Miles Mykkanen  as a young couple, Joyce DiDonato as a waitress and grieving mother, and Vilma Jää as the student Markéta.
