Selections from the repertoire of Louise Farrenc: a Romantic-era composer and one of the greatest piano professors of her time. Farrenc became the only woman appointed to the position of professor at the Paris Conservatory in the 19th century, and used that title to fight for recognition of other female musicians. As a composer, she was particularly well-known for her chamber works. We sample a selection tonight along with her third symphony.
