In an unparalleled career spanning eight decades, the American comedic actor, writer, and filmmaker, Mel Brooks, has proven himself a tireless iconoclast and the nimblest, most freely associative of wits. Tonight’s archive hour of the past first aired on WFMT in 1968, shortly after the release of The Producers, which Brooks wrote and directed. During this program, Studs discussed the satirical film with various, unusual, out-sized characters who all, curiously enough, sounded a lot like Mel Brooks. Mel Brooks was born Melvin James Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York, on June 28, 1926, and we wish him the very best on his 100th birthday.
