Exploring Music with Bill McGlaughlin

First Love….and Later

For centuries, composers have drawn inspiration from love stories, poems, and their own romances. Clara and Robert Schumann wrote music for each other. Gustav Mahler composed the Adagietto from his Fifth Symphony while deeply in love with his new wife, Alma Schindler. Berlioz, Prokofiev, Bellini, and Delius are just a few who were inspired by the story of Romeo and Juliet. And of course, no week of love songs would feel complete without hearing arias from La Bohème, Carmen, and Tosca.
