Brace your ears — the Chicago Air and Water Show is upon us! The thundering of planes will soon be filling the Chicago sky, and boats will take on simulated rescue missions in a summertime tradition dating back to 1959. But there’s more to hear than the roars of the Blue Angels and Red Arrows — take in the excitement while listening to music inspired by aviation and nautical navigation!

With this playlist, take a break from the hectic daytime spectacle with Samuel Barber’s soothing Night Flight, transition from air to water with Wagner’s Overture to The Flying Dutchman (despite the name, it is a ship, not a plane!), and then wish the show’s participants a Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage with Felix Mendelssohn.
