Richard Covello died on July 17 at the age of 89. Covello was well known in Chicago’s artistic circles as a critic, lecturer, and arts administrator. He was associated for many years with the classical radio station WNIB. Covello was born in New York City, where he worked as an actor, and as an occasional supernumerary at the Metropolitan Opera, reflecting his lifelong love of opera; he also served in the US Army. At his own request, no memorial service is planned; supporters of the arts are encouraged to make a donation to their favorite organization in his memory.
