Climate change, rising sea levels, and fossil fuels. These are not topics you normally think of when discussing classical music. However, the 20th- and 21st-centuries have seen many compositions written in response to these global threats. In works like John Luther Adams’s Become Trilogy and Rachel Portman’s ask the river, classical music has brought light to the ongoing climate catastrophe.

In honor of Earth Day, WFMT has put together a playlist of some of these works. We hope that these works will inspire you to think, converse, and help reverse the dangerous course our planet is facing.
