Rinaldo Alessandrini and his ensemble Concerto Italiano’s new album Monteverdi: Daylight follows their Night, released in 2017 on the occasion of the 350th anniversary of the composer’s birth. In his continuing pursuit of a complete recorded Monteverdi edition, the Italian harpsichordist and conductor has devised a supporting structure and dramaturgical framework for the daylight-themed program, bringing together madrigals, opera arias, and instrumental pieces. “This recording is intended as my definitive declaration of love for Monteverdi,” says Alessandrini. “Having associated with him for more than forty years, I owe him a considerable part of everything I’ve learned.”
