Another live studio broadcast today: this weekend’s featured soloist is Nazeeh Shahid, a viola student of Desirée Ruhstrat and semi-finalist in the most recent Sphinx Competition. He plays music by Bach, Piazzolla, Ngwenyama, and Bartók, joined by Liang-yu Wang on piano.

Nazeeh Shahid is a 17 year old young man with a passion for music. He started violin lessons at three with the Music is Magic community music program. Since then, he has continued his music studies at the Hyde Park Suzuki Institute, Merit School of Music, and New Music School. Nazeeh attends Merit’s Alice S. Pfaelzer Tuition Free Conservatory where he plays viola in the Philharmonic Orchestra. Finding great joy in chamber music, he has played with the Sprezzatura Quartet, an award winning chamber group at New Music School. With this group, he performed at the Dans Le Gers Music Festival in France in the summer of 2021, and appeared on Introductions in August 2021.

A returning fellow of Chicago Musical Pathways Initiative, Nazeeh currently studies violin and viola with the esteemed Desirée Ruhstrat. He also enjoys solo performance and has competed and placed in several competitions. In the summer of 2022 he participated in the Chamber Music Northwest Festival’s Young Artist Institute and the Sphinx Performance Academy. Nazeeh spends much of his free time birding, composing music, swimming, playing basketball, and enjoying time with family and friends.
