German baritone Samuel Hasselhorn, an alum of Ravinia Festival’s Steans Music Institute, has won the 2013 Lied Prize in the Nadia and Lili Boulanger Competition, Second Prize in the 2015 Wigmore Hall Song Competition; and First Prize in the 2017 Das Lied Competition. In 2018, Hasselhorn won the Queen Elisabeth Competition, which proved to be an inflection point. Since then, he joined the Vienna State Opera Ensemble and made debuts at the Berlin State Opera and Teatro alla Scala. Art song, however, has remained central to his career.
