The Solti Foundation US, based in Evanston, Illinois, has announced Keitaro Harada as the recipient of its 2023 Sir Georg Solti Conducting Award.

Harada is the music director and the artistic director of the Savannah Philharmonic as well as the associate conductor of his hometown Tokyo Symphony Orchestra.

The $30k grant is reserved for rising conductors and is given to further the recipient’s career and artistic development. The statement notes that Harada has previously received other awards from the foundation. Prior Conducting Fellows have included Gemma New, Roderick Cox, Karina Canellakis, and Cristian Măcelaru.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra, where Maestro Solti served as music director for 22 years, maintains a similarly named but separate award in the form of its Solti Conducting Apprenticeship: that title is currently held by Lina González-Granados through June 2023.
