Note: This program of The Best of Studs Terkel takes place at midnight (an hour later than usual) because of a live performance from Ravinia Festival.
It has become the time of evening for the Best of Studs Terkel. And tonight we have a program from 1962, when American soprano Eleanor Steber spoke with Studs Terkel about commissioning Samuel Barber’s “Knoxville, Summer of 1915.” She describes meeting James Agee, whose novel and prose-poem “A Death in the Family” provided the text for Barber’s evocative masterpiece.
