Robert & Clara Schumann: Chamber Music for Horn – Louis-Philippe Marsolais, David Jalbert

For his latest recording, horn player Louis-Philippe Marsolais has chosen a selection of chamber music by Clara and Robert Schumann composed for various instruments, some of which have been transcribed for horn. He is joined by pianists Philip Chiu and David Jalbert, and cellists Stéphane Tétreault and Cameron Crozman. “The Op. 70, 73, and 94 presented on this album are integral parts of Robert Schumann’s most fertile years” says Marsolais. “The freer forms adopted for these compositions and their less conventional instrumentation led to being categorized as Hausmusik (“domestic music,” often intended for amateur musicians), which explains the lack of enthusiasm they initially aroused. They are now recognized as authentic masterpieces and are included in the repertoire of many instruments.”
