This program features four performances from the Philharmonic’s vast recorded archives. It opens with Mussorgsky’s Prelude to his opera, Khovanshchina. That’s followed by Giya Kancheli’s evocative work for violin and countertenor, And Farewell Goes Out Sighing… From there, we travel In the Steppes of Central Asia, compliments of Alexander Borodin, and the program concludes with Leonard Bernstein’s memorable interpretation of the Leningrad Symphony by Dmitri Shostakovich.
