Today we feature two sopranos doing short recitals of arias and songs: Marguerite DiMarco and Caitlin Burns sing Bernstein, Copland, Fauré, Mozart, Menotti and more.
Marguerite DiMarco is a recent graduate of the Illinois Mathematics & Science Academy and will pursue dual degrees in Neuroscience and Vocal Performance at Northwestern University in the fall. She has studied as a Young Artist with Bel Canto in Tuscany, was selected for the ILMEA All-State Honors Chorus, sang the role of Paulette in BAMTheater’s Junior Theater Festival award-winning production of Legally Blonde, and competed with IMSA’s student-run ensemble Mod21 in the International Championship of High School Acapella.
As the 2024 winner of the Chicago Chapter NATS competition, Marguerite made her operatic debut this summer as a Young Artist with the Opera Festival of Chicago and in the Northwestern Vocal Performance Seminar production of Strauss’ Die Fledermaus. She also holds a part-time position as a cantor at Immaculate Conception Parish. Above all, she wishes to thank her parents and teacher Lisa Griffith for their ongoing support and guidance.
Caitlin Burns hails from Chicago and is a recent graduate of the Chicago High School for the Arts. She has studied classical vocal performance with Gaye Klopack for several years and participated in multiple vocal competitions including NATS, Schmidt Vocal competition, CS Music, ILMEA, and IHSA. Recently, she traveled to Italy for the Bel Canto vocal program in which she studied the classical vocal technique for three months in Florence. The year before she went to Interlochen summer camp for a three week program as well, and before that she participated in an ASM job.
In the fall, she will be a vocal performance major at San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
