The first work on today’s program, “Romantic Bridge” is Schubert’s bewitching Fantasia in F minor, for piano four-hands. Conjuring orchestral sonority with only twenty fingers and one piano, this work is one of the most sublime creations of Schubert’s entire output. Continuing a Romantic theme, the work that follows, Schumann’s Piano Quintet in E-flat major, is dedicated to his wife, Clara and was written during the prolific first years of their marriage.
