Trumpeter Romain Leleu gives us a deep dive into trumpet virtuosity, following in the footsteps of legends like Maurice André and Jean-Baptiste Arban. Not only does he play the challenging Arban Fantaisie brillante with lyrical and technical prowess, but he plays it on a cornet from the 1860s that was owned and played by the composer himself.

From the Paris Exhibition to the 1950s, trumpets and cornet à pistons made in France inspired many compositions for the instruments resulting in an abundance of solo repertory. Music flourished everywhere in Paris during the period covered by this new album. Using four historical instruments from the collection of the Musée de la musique (such as a valve cornet ca. 1862-1865), French trumpeter Romain Leleu and French pianist Julien Gernay explore music by Jean-Baptiste Arban, Marcel Bitsch, Debussy, Georges Enescu, Gabriel Fauré, and other composers from the Belle Époque and the Modern eras including George Gershwin.
