Why do people in the 21st century, in the digital, electronic age, relate so strongly to music that was composed by candlelight and performed in unheated rooms on instruments barely capable of handling the notes? There may not be a clear answer, but for the many who enjoy the Chamber Music Society’s music in New York and around the world through the magic of radio and the internet, nothing beats music for the holidays more than the glorious, uplifting and endlessly inspiring music of the Baroque. Today’s program, “A Baroque Mix,” features works by J.S. Bach including the Second Brandenburg Concerto and the Keyboard Concerto in E major with soloist Jeremy Denk, plus concertos by Vivaldi and Heinichen perfect for a cold and magical December night.
