Mark Ridenour, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s assistant principal trumpet, will retire this month after 31 seasons with the orchestra. He’ll be honored with the orchestra’s Theodore Thomas Medallion for Distinguished Service.
Appointed by Daniel Barenboim in 1994, Ridenour’s final performances with the orchestra will take place this weekend, as the CSO performs Verdi’s Requiem with music director emeritus for life Riccardo Muti.
Ridenour, who previously played with the Lexington Philharmonic, the Dayton Philharmonic, the Memphis Symphony Orchestra, and the Florida Orchestra, has served as acting principal trumpet at various points during his CSO tenure. He will continue to teach at the Wheaton College Conservatory of Music in the Chicago suburbs.
Last month, harpist Lynne Turner announced her retirement from the orchestra following a 63-year tenure.
