Metamorphosis is the theme of the Newberry Consort’s newly announced 2025-2026 season.

The respected Chicago early music ensemble will present four programs between October 2025 and May 2026.

First up in late October is a previously announced collaboration with Haymarket Opera: Jacopo Peri’s opera Euridice.

The company’s beloved and ever-evolving holiday program receives a new spin this year with A Flamenco Christmas. In three performances in and around Chicago, the ensemble will explore traditional music for the season from Spain, Portugal, and Latin America. The program is a collaboration with Houston-based ensemble Arte Puro and features mezzo-soprano Cecilia Duarte and flamenco dancer Ana María Barceló.

In March, the ensemble explores the “Musical, Technical, and Scientific Inventions” of the early Renaissance with an imaginative program called Corkscrews, Coils, and Clocks. The program features music by Johannes Ockeghem, Josquin des Prez, and more, with an appearance by Chicago musician Mary Vanhoozer-Rodriguez. Shawn Keener, a frequent Newberry contributor, will create projection art to complement the music.

Closing out the season in May, the ensemble sets its sights closer to home, with a showcase of early American music that coincides with the country’s 250th anniversary.
