Wagner’s Lohengrin is an opera based on the medieval poem “Wartburgkrieg”: a German fairy-tale with a classic battle between good and evil. The Bayreuth Festival staged the classic opera this past summer using director Yuval Sharon’s ‘blue’ production, with a star-studded cast and a revived set by painter Neo Rauch. Christian Thielemann conducts the festival orchestra with Piotr Beczała in the title role. Mika Kares is Heinrich der Vogler; other cast memebers include Ólafur Sigurðarson, Elza van den Heever, and Miina-Liisa Värelä.
