He has a passion for contemporary music, collaborating with Eighth Blackbird, Third Coast Percussion, Ensemble dal Niente, and International Contemporary Ensemble.

The Millar Brass Ensemble was founded in 1981. It has developed an international reputation for the finest in brass playing. While the ensemble tours and performs outside of Chicago, one of its primary functions is still to perform as part of the liturgy at Alice Millar Chapel at Northwestern University.
