Eugene Goossens was the conductor of the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra for 15 years, between 1931 and 1946. During this time he was incredibly active within the composing community, commissioning major works from many contemporary composers that have become classical music staples. One of these works was Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man. Henry Fogel discusses the significance of this conductor and his impact on the classical music world.
