CSO Music Director Emeritus for Life Riccardo Muti has a special connection with the Vienna Philharmonic. For the last 30 odd years, he has returned to conduct the orchestra at the Salzburg Festival during the Feast of the Assumption of Mary, expanding the program to include three performances. In 2025, Muti conducted the Schubert’s 4th Symphony (nicknamed the “tragic” symphony) and Anton Bruckner’s final mass. The Vienna Philharmonic is joined by the Vienna State Opera Chorus, as well as soloists Ying Fang, Wiebke Lehmkuhl, Pavol Breslik, and William Thomas.
