After 24 years at the helm, Bruce Tammen, the founder and artistic director of Chicago Chorale, will be retiring at the end of the 2025-26 season. Without institutional funding or sponsorship, Tammen founded Chicago Chorale in 2001. The group flourished under his direction and was quickly acknowledged for its high-quality performances of a cappella and orchestral choral works — a transformation of the sound of Chorale’s 60 volunteer singers into that of a professional-level ensemble. Bruce Tammen joins WFMT to look back on the accomplishments of the Chicago Chorale in advance of his final performance as artistic director leading Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem later this month.
