An alumnus of the Ryan Opera Center, bass-baritone Christian Van Horn’s international career took flight at Lyric Opera of Chicago. Over the years, he has regularly returned in star bass-baritone vehicles like Escamillo in Bizet’s Carmen (2017), Méphistophélès in Gounod’s Faust (2018), and more recently, in two Verdi roles, Banquo in Macbeth (2021) and Silva in Ernani (2022). He makes a triumphant homecoming in the title role of Mozart’s Don Giovanni on the heels of opening the San Francisco Opera season in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra. Christian Van Horn joins WFMT to preview his performance and to share selections from his solo debut album.
