In March the New York Philharmonic debuted David Lang‘s oratorio the wealth of nations. A co-commission between the Philharmonic and the Aspen Music Festival and School, it is inspired by Adam Smith’s seminal 1776 work of the same name. With 18 movements and spanning two hours, Lang hopes this work “encourages audiences to consider what we truly value”.
