The inaugural 2024-2025 season contains four concerts taking place on Wednesday over the course of the year. The debut season boasts six world premieres.
Dubbed “the kind of musician who is shaping the future of classical music” by New York Magazine, Conrad Tao will perform music by Mendelssohn, Chopin, Gershwin, Todd Moellenberg, and more.
Music Director Jaap van Zweden conducts a gorgeous program from the orchestra’s residency at Oklahoma State University.
The season will be the first following the departure of Riccardo Muti as music director. But the maestro will be close at hand as he continues his association with the CSO.
In addition to the annual CSO residency, Ravinia will play host to a spate of guest ensembles, including Music of the Baroque, The Knights, the Lincoln Trio, Chanticleer, the Chicago Philharmonic, and the Chicago Sinfonietta.
The eighty-fifth annual season opens June 12 and will run through August 17, with most performances taking place at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park.
All Grant Park Music Festival concerts are free. WFMT will have several live broadcasts from the festival, including opening night and the Beethoven Ninth concerts. See a full listing of performances.
Chicago audiences will know pianist Conrad Tao from his time as Composer-in-Residence with Music in the Loft, and from WFMT’s airwaves.
