September is National Piano Month, so WFMT is sharing a supersized playlist – with one selection corresponding to each key on the keyboard.
On November 13, 2019, Polish pianist Dr. Kamil Tokarski took the Preston Bradley Hall stage to perform a program of works by Scarlatti, Chopin, and Albéniz.
The festival’s artistic director Elbio Barilari, who also hosts WFMT’s Fiesta, remarked of the festival that “just the idea that a Latin American classical music festival exists in the US and has already been going on for 14 years is very exciting!”
A successful, in-demand touring and recording artist, Pablo Sáinz-Villegas visited WFMT while in town to make his CSO debut in a program of Spanish and Latin American music conducted by Giancarlo Guerrero.
“We could have made a program with only pieces by Ravel, Debussy, and Liszt,” Grimaud said. “But I wanted to represent as many composers as possible, which meant only one piece per composer…”
