Today, Grant Park Music Festival announced its 2017 summer season. This year’s festival runs for 10 weeks from June 14 through August 19 at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park, and other city venues including the South Shore Cultural Center.
The opening night concert features Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Vadim Gluzman as the soloist. The world premiere of a newly-commissioned horn concerto by Aaron Jay Kernis will be given in August. The Grant Park Chorus joins the orchestra for performances including the festival finale, Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
The Festival also announced that it renewed the contract of Carlos Kalmar, the Festival’s artistic director and principal conductor, through 2021.
All Grant Park Music Festival concerts are free. WFMT will have several live broadcasts from the festival, including opening night and the Beethoven Ninth concerts. See a full listing of performances below.
