When Carl Grapentine, host of WFMT's Morning Program, first visited Berlin in 1965 as a student he immediately felt at home. Since then, he's been back 8 times and says that it now feels like he's visiting an old friend. "It's the history, physical beauty and, of course, the music of Berlin that I love." He loves it so much, in fact, that he's sometimes wondered whether he could live there. Thankfully for Chicago, Carl is content (for now) with the occasional trips to Berlin that he leads for WFMT listeners.

Multiple opera companies, orchestras, and concert venues make Germany's largest city a music lover's dream. Combine a trip there with Carl's wealth of musical stories and passion for the place and it's no wonder so many people have decided to join in on the fun.

You can join Carl on a video tour of his favorite places in Berlin. We'll start at the Brandenburg Gate, visit the Philharmonie concert hall (home of the Berlin Philharmonic), and visit the site of a legendary concert led by Leonard Bernstein that marked one of the most significant political events of the 20th century.
