Korean born cellist Hee-Young Lim is joined by pianist George Lapauw in a concert of live music presented under the Tiffany glass dome of the Chicago Cultural Center.
Praised by the Washington Post as having an “exceptional sense of lyricism, an artist to keep an eye on,” cellist Hee-Young Lim has established herself as one of the most charismatic cellists of her generation. She earned critical acclaims for her evocative performances to audience around the world.
She entered the Korean National University at 15 where she was the youngest student ever to be accepted. She moved to the United States to further her education at the New England Conservatory. Upon graduation at NEC, she went on to study at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in Philippe Muller’s class where she graduated with highest distinction. She is also a graduate of the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar, earning a Konzertexamen degree with distinction.
In recent years, she has appeared with numerous prominent orchestras including the Deutsche Berlin Chamber Orchestra, the Budapest Radio Philharmonic, the Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Jenaer Philharmonie, the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra, Baden-Baden Philharmonie, the Plock Symphony Orchestra in Poland, the Württembergische Philharmonie Reutlingen, the Weimar HFM Orchestra, the Houston Symphony Orchestra, the KBS Symphony orchestra, the Seoul Symphony, the Korean Chamber Orchestra, the Incheon Symphony, the Chungju Philharmonic, the Sungnam Philharmonic Orchestra, Wonju Philharmonic, Korean-American Youth Orchestra, and among others. Ms. Lim has been the featured guest artist on radio stations such as the Korean Radio Broadcasting station, WETA, WFMT, KUHF, RTKK, and Polski Radio.
Upcoming performances in the 2018-19 season include engagements as soloist with the KBS Symphony, Wonju Philharmonic, Incheon Symphony, Bridgewater Hall’s recital series in Manchester, concert tour in Indonesia, and recitals in the United States and China. She will make her debut recording with the London Symphony Orchestra in the summer of 2018.
Pianist Kuang-Hao Huang performs throughout the United States as well as in Europe and Asia. Mr. Huang is most often heard as a collaborator with Chicago’s finest musicians, from instrumentalists of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra to singers with the Lyric Opera. He has performed with the Avalon, Euclid, Spektral and Vermeer String Quartets and has been a guest of the Chicago Chamber Musicians. Mr. Huang can be heard in recordings on the Aucourant, Cedille, Innova and Naxos labels.
An advocate of new music, Mr. Huang gave the world premiere performances of solo works by Louis Andriessen and Chen Yi at Weill Hall as part of Carnegie Hall’s Millennium Piano Book Project. He has also premiered numerous ensemble works, including pieces by Laurie Altman, Mason Bates, Stacy Garrop, Geoffrey Gordon, John Harbison, Daniel Kellogg, Shulamit Ran and Laura Schwendinger. Mr. Huang is a member of Fulcrum Point New Music Project and has appeared with MusicNOW.
A dedicated teacher, Mr. Huang currently serves on the faculties of the Chicago College of Performing Arts at Roosevelt University and Concordia University-Chicago. Mr. Huang is Associate Artistic Director of Rush Hour Concerts at the International Music Foundation as well as Concerts/Artistic Director of Make Music Chicago, a day-long, citywide celebration of music on the summer solstice.
