Window to the World Communications, Inc., the parent company of WTTW and WFMT, announced Thursday it has hired a new president and CEO.

WWCI’s Board of Trustees selected Sandra Cordova Micek, a senior marketing executive with the Hyatt Hotels Corporation, to serve as its new president and CEO beginning May 1.

“This is an exciting time for WTTW and WFMT and I am incredibly honored to be taking on the president and CEO role for WWCI,” Micek said.

“It is a privilege to be a part of an organization committed to creating and presenting innovative, quality content. I hope to leverage my experience in business strategy, cross-platform media and audience building to successfully lead the organization. This role uniquely taps into my passions for the arts and humanities, life-long learning and public affairs. I look forward to working with the talented team to engage diverse audiences and communities in Chicago and beyond.”

Micek has worked as Hyatt’s senior vice president, Global Brands, since 2015. Prior to that, she was the senior vice president of marketing for USA Today.

Her job experience includes senior marketing positions at Yahoo! and Nokia, and she also ran Women at NBCU. In her new role, Micek will be responsible for all strategic, financial, operating and development activities within the organization.

Micek earned her bachelor’s degree in communications/television, radio and film management at the S.I. Newhouse School of Communications at Syracuse University. She currently serves on the Newhouse School Advisory Board and the Syracuse University Chicago Regional Council.

Micek also holds an MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania and has earned several awards in her career, including two Shorty Awards honoring the best in social media and a 2014 Smarties Award from the Mobile Marketing Association.

Dan Schmidt, who served as WWCI’s president and CEO since 1998, announced his plans to retire last summer, eventually stepping down at the end of 2017. Following an exhaustive search, the Window to the World Communications, Inc. Board of Trustees says it believes it has found “best individual to lead this outstanding public media organization.”

“Micek is a seasoned executive with a proven track record of success across a wide range of media and industries,” Board chair James W. Mabie said Thursday. “Her entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and ability to have a meaningful impact will help us to grow and evolve. We believe that she is uniquely qualified to lead WWCI successfully into the future.”
