On January 4, WFMT is launching two new programs that, with Introductions, will make Saturday mornings a time for families on the station. The programs are Saturday Morning Listener's Request, a family-friendly classical music request show, and Soundtrack, which focuses on film, TV, and video game music. Says WFMT vice president and general manager George Preston, “We want to open the door for our listeners to share that special experience, hopefully creating great memories and fostering a lifelong love of the genre in future generations.”

And what better way to launch programs celebrating music for kids and families than by inviting a very musical family to perform — violinist Rachel Barton Pine and her 8-year-old daughter Sylvia Pine? Enjoy the mother-daughter duo's performances of four works, which features a work written by Sylvia and two pieces from Rachel's forthcoming album Music by Black Composers, Violin Volume II'Such Thanks to Spirits' from the musical play Afiwa by Nicholas Ballanta (1893-1962) from Sierra Leone, and 'Serenata' from A Sertaneja by the earliest known Black woman composer, Francisca "Chiquinha" Gonzaga (1847-1935) from Brazil.
