In a concert livestream this Friday, May 22, Paul O’Dette, the Grammy-winning “dean of American lutenists,” will share a program of Elizabethan ballads and Scottish tunes. Prior to the concert, University of Chicago professor Lawrence Zbikowski will chat with O’Dette about his unusual beginnings with the instrument, his approach to technique, and his thoughts on historical interpretation. The concert will begin at 7:00 pm CT on WFMT’s Facebook page, with a pre-concert chat beginning at 6:40 pm CT.

Want to learn more about the lute before Friday’s broadcast? In 2016, Paul O’Dette helped us learn more about this storied instrument in our article Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Lute but Were Afraid to Ask.

WFMT is proud to present this recital stream with the University of Chicago Presents and the Chamber Music Society of Detroit.
