In this program featuring mezzo-soprano Katherine Beck, works of Handel, Haydn, Mahler, Sondheim, and H. Leslie Adams are featured. Love, jealousy, and deceit are the themes of Handel’s opera Serse, we will hear the bravura aria “Crude furie”. After that, gorgeous music from Haydn’s cantata Arianna a Naxos, then music from Mahler’s emotional Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. The recital ends with songs by Black American composer Florence Price and Broadway great Stephen Sondheim.
