This past weekend, WFMT teamed up with Cedille Records to stream the finals of the venerable Chicago label's first-ever Emerging Artist Competition.
On Saturday, the field of six semifinalists was narrowed to three finalists: pianist Clare Longendyke, violinist Karisa Chiu, and saxophonist Julian Velasco. Following Sunday's final round, Julian Velasco has been named the winner of the competition. His prize? A record deal that will see the artist working with Cedille to produce and release an album.
