The Huelgas Ensemble presents a concert of motets, chansons, and mass fragments by Josquin Desprez, the French Renaissance composer who is remembered as one of the great exemplars of the Golden Age of Counterpoint. In the words of Founder and Artistic Director of the Huelgas Ensemble, Paul Van Nevel, “Josquin was a pioneer. He mastered all the contrapuntal techniques to control his polyphony as he wished, often in violation of the accepted rules.”

Tonight’s program was recorded May 15, 2021, in St Anne’s Church, Prague Crossroads Center, as part of the Prague Spring International Music Festival, commemorating the 500th anniversary of the death of Josquin Desprez. Thanks to WFMT’s assoociation with the European Broadcasting Union, we’re able to offer this week’s program as a stream for 30 days following the broadcast. A blue “Listen” button will be accessible when the stream is available.
