This weekend on Introductions, we celebrate the Incendio Saxophone Trio. This group from the Southwest Suburbs recently won Gold in the Junior Wind Division of the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition in South Bend, the first Chicago-area group to win gold in five years. We also include a recording from the Silver Medal-winning Pelios String Quartet from the Music Institute of Chicago Academy.
WFMT recently recorded the trio at a Bach to School event at Wendell Phillips Academy High School in Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, and we bring you highlights of that performance.
The Incendio Saxophone Trio is made up of Alex Procajlo, soprano; Zachary Solomon, alto; and Emma Phillips, baritone. All three are seniors at Victor J. Andrew High School in Tinley Park or Carl Sandburg High School in Orland Park. Alex and Zachary are both heading to the University of Michigan to major in performance saxophone, while Emma will study Political Science on a Pre-Law track at the University of Chicago.
Coached by Bryan Polacek, they won Silver at last year’s Fischoff competition, and appeared on Introductions live from Navy Pier in July 2022.
