Bartolomeo Cavarozzi (1587–1625) "The Sorrows of Aminta"

The centerpiece of tonight’s program is Handel’s Aminta e Fillide. Handel was twenty-two when he wrote this pastoral cantata about a love-struck shepherd and the nymph he’s fallen for, but hard. Tonight, Opera Settecento, under the direction of Leo Duarte, is joined by Fair Oriana, the soprano duo comprising Angela Hicks and Penelope Appleyard. Handel’s secular cantata is preceded by his Oboe Concerto, HMV 287, featuring Leo Duarte as soloist.

Tonight’s program was recorded live in concert January 26, 2022 in Vienna’s Konzerthaus, as part of the Resonanzen Festival. Thanks to WFMT’s association with the European Broadcasting Union, tonight’s program will be available as a stream for thirty days following the broadcast. A blue “Listen” button will appear when the stream is accessible.
