Last fall, the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma presented a new production of Handel’s Giulio Cesare featuring countertenors Raffaele Pe, Aryeh Nussbaum Cohen, and Carlo Vistoli. To promote the opera, the company showcased the three countertenors in an evening of arias and duets from operas by Vivaldi, Handel, Porpora, and others with the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma Orchestra conducted by Rinaldo Alessandrini. Cohen is known to Chicago audiences for his performances with Newberry Consort and Music of the Baroque. Carlo Vistoli also has performed in Chicago as part of the Monteverdi 450 tour at the Harris Theater. Enjoy highlights from a rare gathering of three leading artists, especially chosen for fans of baroque opera and the countertenor voice.
