On May 31 2026, Bruce Tammen will lead the Chicago Chorale for a final time. The 75 year-old Artistic Director and Founding member has spent the last 24 years developing the ensemble: now, he is handing off the reins to someone else.
Chicago Chorale is a volunteer organization of about 60 singers who must audition in English and one language of their choice. They tackle vocal works from the 16th century to the present day: from a capella works to large-scale pieces for chorus and orchestra. Under Tammen’s direction, Chicago Chorale has recorded seven CDs, completed four European tours, and has appeared across Chicago’s music venues.
Chicago Chorale’s 2025-26 season opens on Saturday November 22 with a performance of Rachmaninoff’s choral showpiece All Night Vigil, featuring special guest oktavist Glenn Miller. Two holiday concerts follow in December: a program of Advent Vespers on Saturday, December 6, and a carol sing-along on Sunday, December 14.
The season concludes with a performance of Gabriel Faure’s Requiem on May 31, 2026, marking Bruce Tammen’s official retirement. A replacement has yet to be named.
