Bernardo Pasquini’s oratorio Sant’Agnese, recounts the martyrdom in the year 304 of a young Roman girl, the patron saint of chastity. The oratorio and the martyrdom of Agnes of Rome, the patroness of virginal purity, was composed in 1677 to a libretto by Cardinal Benedetto Pamphili. After its performances in Rome, it was intended to be heard at the imperial court in Vienna. A copy of the printed libretto is preserved in the Seminary Library in Ljubljana. Tonight’s program was recorded live in concert August 11, 2025 in St Peter’s Church as part of Slovenia’s Radovljica Festival.

Thanks to WFMT’s association with the European Broadcasting Union, we’re able to bring you tonight’s program as a stream for thirty days following the broadcast. You’ll find it, when accessible, at https://www.wfmt.com/listen/
