Described by the Chicago Tribune as “a countertenor of remarkable purity, range and agility,” Kangmin Justin Kim was born in South Korea and grew up in Chicago. He studied at the Bienen School of Music and London’s Royal Academy of Music. After building his European career in Baroque opera and trouser roles traditionally assumed by mezzo-sopranos, he returned to Chicago in 2017 with John Eliot Gardiner’s Monteverdi 450 project.  Kim joins host Oliver Camacho to preview M. Butterfly 蝴蝶君, the opera by David Henry Hwang and Huang Ruo, receiving its world premiere this summer at Santa Fe Opera with Kim in the title role.

Watch Kim as his alter-ego Kimchilia Bartoli below.
