New Tango Music

Since the 1920’s classical composers from Argentina and Uruguay drew inspiration from tango music, an urban genre developed in the twin cities across Rio de la Plata, Buenos Aires and Montevideo. On this Fiesta, we will hear tango-inspired pieces by four Argentine living composers.

A Mexican Concerto

Fiesta presents a full concert of Mexican music by composers from three different generations. We’ll hear Candelario Huízar’s Imágenes, Carlos Chávez’ Toccata for Percussion and Eduardo Angulo’s Concerto for Harp and Strings.

Puerto Rican Composer Ernesto Cordero

Guitarist and composer Ernesto Cordero was born in New York in 1946. He studied in Puerto Rico, Spain, Italy and the US. And he has become one of the most important voices among Puerto Rican composers. We will feature his vocal and orchestral work Estampas Criollas as well as a guitar concerto.
