Happy New Year to my Friends in Music!
Every year, I thank my lucky stars for living in a city so rich in cultural diversity and artistic excellence. My resolution is to expand my boundaries beyond the musical crown jewels of Chicago (the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and more) and seek out live performances by the smaller unsung heroes of our musical community. My plan is to take myself on a “Musical Mystery Tour” at least once a month — I mean a real rabbit-out-of-the-hat situation — where I close my eyes, pick a venue or an ensemble I’ve never patronized, buy a ticket and let myself be surprised and delighted! I can’t wait to see what happens!
