Brass sections in professional ensembles and brass playing headliners have historically been stacked high with the names of talented men. In fact, not until 2006 did a woman assume the principal tuba chair in a major US orchestra (Carol Jantsch, Philadelphia Orchestra). But women have been playing at the top of their fields in, jazz, classical, blues, and reggae for decades, and today, there are countless dynamic women brass players who are showing off their chops and sharing their talents with us.
In celebration of Women’s History Month, take a listen to a playlist filled with these women and their horns. Hit it, ladies!
