Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music has announced its classical music performance series for 2023-2024.

The piano series, set in the Galvin Recital Hall against the backdrop of Chicago’s skyline, heralds a lineup of all-women pianists. Yulianna Avdeeva appears in November, Anna Geniushene visits in January, Beatrice Rana performs in February, Maria João Pires (recipient of Bienen’s Jean Gimbel Lane Prize for piano performance earlier this year) takes the stage in April, and Gabriela Montero closes out the piano series later that same month.

The ongoing Segovia Classical Guitar series this season welcomes Raphaelle Smits, Nigel North, David Russell, Álvaro Pierri, and An Tran.

The annual Winter Chamber Music Festival takes place from January 5-21, 2024 and features the school’s ensemble-in-residence the Dover Quartet, plus the Gryphon Trio as well as the Balourdet, Ariel, Viano, and Parker Quartets.

The Keyboard Conversations series returns — this year’s four programs merge music and discussion in Jeffrey Siegel-led surveys of Mozart, Chopin, Liszt, and French and Romantic rep.
